Abstract

The objective of the present experimental study was to evaluate the structural and functional state of the liver in the rats chronically consuming alcohol and compare it with that of control animals regularly drinking boron-containing mineral water (MV) The model of chronic alcoholization (CA) was generated by daily injection of a 25% aqueous ethanol solution to 20 white rats at a dose of 1.5% of the body weight during 45 days. To the animals of groups 2, 3, and 4, the ethanol solution was administered into the oesophagus through a soft olive-tipped bougie. The disordered hepatic functional activity was corrected using bottled mineral waters of different composition (“Luzhanskaya”, “Polyana kvasova”). The animals of groups 3 and 4 were given carbon dioxidefree mineral water (1.5% of body weight, daily) through the soft olive-tipped bougie during 15 days before the onset of ethanol administration. The total duration of MW consumption was 30 days. The study demonstrated that drinking mineral water significantly reduced manifestations of chronic alcoholization. Peculiarities of MV action on the manifestations of CA were elucidated. The data obtained provide the material for the development of the rationale for the use of boron-containing mineral water for the compensation of structural and functional disturbances in the liver associated with chronic alcoholization.

Antipova I.I., Smirnova I.N.

Abstract

Russia is one of the countries with the high prevalence of arterial hypertension affecting 40% of the population. Optimization of the treatment of this condition remains a major challenge to healthcare services despite a wide spectrum of medicamental and non-medicamental modalities currently available for this purpose. The objective of the present work was to substantiate the use of therapeutic baths containing “Tonus+” salts and develop methodology of such treatment as a component of combined rehabilitative therapy of the patients presenting with hypertensive disease. The study included randomized examination and treatment of 42 patients with stage 1 and II hypertensive disease (mean age 53.8 ± 2.7 years). The patients were allocated to two groups matched for age, gender, and clinical conditions. Group 1 was comprised of 20 patients treated with the application of “Tonus+” baths. Other patients (n = 22) given general soft-water baths constituted the control group. Laboratory studies included hematological and biochemical analyses, functional diagnostic procedures with the use of veloergometer, and psychological diagnostics based on the hospital anxiety-depression scale (HSAD) and the subjective asthenia scale (MFI-20). The results of this study made it possible to develop the method for the rehabilitative treatment of the patients presenting with stage I and II hypertensive disease with the use of therapeutic baths containing “Tonus+” salts in combination with manual massage and basal hypotensive therapy. It is concluded that combined balneotherapy has positive effect on the main components of pathogenesis of hypertensive disease, improves the adaptive potential of the organism, and enhances the effectiveness of the treatment and the quality of life of the patients.

Panina O.S., Cherenkov Y.V., Raigorodsky Y.M.

Abstract

The rate of preterm births remains rather high. Many prematurely bom infants present with a variety of neurologic and somatic abnormalities which hampers their socialization and deteriorate the quality of life. Hypoxia is one of the key mechanisms underlying the development of perinatal CNS diseases. It leads not only to the changes in cerebral blood circulation but also to hyperbilirubinemia that occurs in 60-80% of the newborn babies and, in its turn, exerts the negative action on cerebral circulation during the early neonatal period. Hence, the necessity of efficacious methods for the rehabilitative treatment. The present clinical and neurophysiological study included 90 prematurely born infants at the age from 2 to 28 days presenting with hyperbilirubinemia and cerebral ischemia. It was shown that the successive application of phototherapy and a traveling pulsed magnetic field significantly (two-fold) enhances the effectiveness of the rehabilitative treatment.

Lelyanov A.D., Listratenkov K.V.

Abstract

The present study was designed to analyse the results of the examination of 90 patients presenting with an ingrown toenail following the laser-assisted surgical treatment. Fifty five of the 98 patients presenting with this condition had the operative wound treated with the use of ozone therapy and interactive bandages depending on the phase of the wound process. The detailed description of the application of this method is presented. The results of the treatment were evaluated based on the clinical, cytological, and bacteriological data obtained during the study. Specifically, it was shown that the local application of ozone therapy in the form of an ozonated physiological solution, ozone-oxygen gaseous mixture and ozonated oil in combination with UGRO dressings accelerates the wound healing by 4-6 days and exerts a fairly well apparent antibacterial action, reduces the frequency of onychocryptosis, and decreases the occurrence of relapses of this condition. It is concluded that the proposed method demonstrates the higher clinical effectiveness compared with traditional therapy.

The application of nitrogen oxide in the surgical practice

Vyrenkov Y.E., Esipov A.V., Musailov V.A., Moskalenko V.V., Shishlo V.K., Povalyaev A.V.

Abstract

Nitric oxide is continuously produced in the human and animal organism in the course of enzyme-catalyzed processes with the involvement of NO-synthase; it plays the role of an universal regulator of various biological and physiological processes The results of experimental studies and the analysis of the data on the participation of endogenous NO in wound-related pathology and inflammatory processes revealed the main mechanisms and effects of NO-therapy on these processes. NO exerts both direct and indirect (mediated through peroxynitrite synthesis) bactericidal action including induction of phagocytosis of bacteria and necrotic detritus by neutrophils and macrophages, inhibition of free oxygen radicals producing pathogenic effects, activation of antioxidant protection, normalization of microcirculation by virtue of vasodilative and anticogulative NO potency that improves vascular trophicity, tissue metabolism, and nervous conductivity, regulation of immune processes and compensation of disorders associated with wound pathology, direct induction of fibroblast proliferation and protein synthesis, enhancement and regulation of collagen formation, regulation of apoptosis during remodeling of the granulation-fibrous tissue, influence on keratocyte proliferation and epithelization of the wound defect.

The combined treatment of the children presenting with cerebral ischemia during the perinatal and neonatal periods with the application of the physiotherapeutic methods

Denisova O.I.

Abstract

Thesis of O.I. Denisova has the objective to estimate the possibility of identification of predictors of the risk of development of cerebral ischemia in the newborn infants, the necessity of prophylactic measures in the perinatal period, and the scientifically-based substantiation of the application of physiotherapeutic techniques, such as general magnetic therapy and hyperbaric oxygenation, for the combined treatment of the children presenting with cerebral ischemia in the perinatal and neonatal periods. The analysis of the results of the study gave evidence of the high effectiveness of perinatal application of hyperbaric oxygen therapy that promotes a significant (by 26.4%) reduction in the probability of the development of cerebral ischemia in newborn infants and the 16.4% and 2.6% decrease in the number of patients with moderately severe and severe forms of the disease, respectively. The introduction of magnetic therapy into the combined treatment of the children with cerebral ischemia accelerates normalization of clinical, laboratory, and instrumental manifestations of the disease; moreover, it significantly (by 18.2%) decreases the number of children suffering retardation of the neuro-psychic development.

Lyadov M.V.

Abstract

The present study was designed to estimate the possibilities of general air cryotherapy for the combined treatment of the patients presenting with stage I - II primary open-angle glaucoma. A total of 74 patients at the age varying from 42 to 67 years were examined. 36 of them (study group) were given the basal treatment and a course of general air cryotherapy consisting of 14 procedures carried out every other day. The patients comprising the control group (n = 28) received basal therapy alone including the potassium-enriched diet, medicamental therapy, and a course of therapeutic exercises. By the end of the treatment period, intraocular pressure decreased by 46 mm Hg and 2-3 mm Hg in both the study and the control groups respectively. It is concluded that general air cryotherapy introduced into the combined rehabilitative treatment of the patients presenting with primary open-angle glaucoma causes the clinically significant reduction in intraocular pressure, improves the quantitative photosensitivity index (in 67% of the patients), and decreases the occurrence of hemorrhages at the optic disk surface (in 32% of the cases).

Nazarenko G.I., Geroeva I.B.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to estimate the clinical effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy and the treatment of plantar fasciitis (heel spur). The patients of the study and control groups (n = 47 and n = 30 respectively) were managed with the use of hydrocortisone phonophoresis and cryotherapy targeted at the heel region. For the patients of the study group, these physiotherapeutic modalities were supplemented by shock wave therapy (frequency 15 Hz and energy level 1.8-3 bars) with a total of 3,000 pulses for a session, once every 5 days. The pulses were applied to the most painful point and along the plantar aponeurosis. The marked clinical improvement in the patients’ condition was documented in 86.6% of the cases of the study group compared with 40% in the control group. The moderate improvement was observed in 26.6% of the patients while any clinical effect was absent in 33.3% of the cases.

The experience with the application of fluc-tophoresis for the combined treatment of the patients presenting with chronic generalized periodontitis

P’yanzinaA.V A.V.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to estimate the possibility of application of the fluctuorization technique for the combined treatment of periodontitis. The study included 40 patients at the age varying from 35 to 65 years presenting with chronic generalized periodontitis of medium severity. The patients were divided into two groups. Those comprising the control group underwent fluctuorization alone while the patients of the study group were treated by the administration of the colegel preparation in combination with sodium alginate, metronidasol, and dimexide into the periodontal pockets followed by fluctuorization. The analysis of the data obtained showed that the use of medicamental fluctuophoresis significantly increases the probability of the favourable outcome of the rehabilitative treatment of the patients presenting with moderately severe chronic generalized periodontitis. Colegel fluctuophoresis allows to obtain much better results of the treatment compared with those in the control patients treated with the use of flucuorization alone.

The individualized programs of hydrotherapy under conditions of a rehabilitation department for the patients presenting with acute disturbances of cerebral circulation

Tetievsky V.I., Kritari A.A.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to estimate the possibilities and advantages of hydrokinesitherapy based on a small pool and rehabilitation bath and/or a classical hydromassage bath as well as the use of the dry immersion technique in the framework of the programs of comprehensive rehabilitation of the patients presenting with acute disturbances of cerebral circulation. Hydrokinesitherapy with the application of the above equipment ensures the maximum freedom of movements by virtue of gravity loss during immersion of the whole body into the water in the pool or in the hydromassage bath. The freedom of movements, in its turn, makes it possible to perform exercises designed to improve stretching, flexibility, and enhancement of joint range of motion (elimination of contractures and spastic muscular tone). Simultaneously, the possibility arises for educating the patients in motion patterns, keeping balance, equilibrium skills, walking, etc. The application of these methods based at the small rehabilitation department of a city hospital became possible due to the use of innovative equipment having new functional properties and convenient consumer-oriented characteristics.
