Abstract
In the majority of cases, there is a lack of evidence-based foundation for the application of traditional medicamental therapy of neonatal jaundice. The use of phototherapy with monochromatic light is efficacious, but the method is labourious and fraught with adverse effects. Our original approach protected by a RF patent is based on the use of polarized polychromatic non-coherent light and is free from the aforementioned drawbacks. A comparative randomized study has demonstrated a significantly greater decrease of the bilirubin level in a group of newborn infants given polarized non-coherent phototherapy in addition to traditional medicamental treatment in comparison with the patients managed by drug therapy alone.
