The role of general magnetotherapy in the combined treatment of knee joint osteoarthrosis in elderly patients

Abstract

This paper reports the results of evaluation of the effectiveness of the combined treatment of knee joint osteoarthrosis in patients of advanced age with the use of general magnetotherapy. A total of 152 patients aged between 60 and 74 years presenting with stage II-III knee joint osteoarthrosis were given combined therapy. The main group received conservative treatment including dietary and medicamental therapy, physical exercises, and general magnetotherapy. It was shown that inclusion of the latter modality reduces severity of articular syndrome, improves peripheral hemodynamics and the quality of life estimated from changes of objective and subjective signs and parameters. It is concluded that general magnetotherapy is an important component of the combined treatment of knee joint osteoarthrosis.
